Piper is a learning workspace for people who read seriously outside of work — and want to keep what they read.
Why it exists
Reading a lot and getting good at something are not the same activity, and almost every tool is built for the first one. You finish the book, you keep the highlights, and a month later almost none of it reaches you at the moment it would have mattered.
Piper is built for the second. The reading, the notes you make against it, and the review that brings it back are one system rather than three, so what you study accumulates instead of evaporating. That is the whole idea; everything else follows from it.
How it is built
Local-first, deliberately. Your vault is a folder on your own disk and the database on your machine is the real thing rather than a cache of something else. There is no account, and nothing you read is reported anywhere. That is a design commitment, not a current limitation — the detail is here, including what it does not mean yet.
